Michael Biopic Roars Toward $800M Milestone, Challenges Demon Slayer’s Record

Spread the love

Bollywood fans, meet Hollywood’s latest box office sensation! Antoine Fuqua’s Michael, the life story of the King of Pop starring Jaafar Jackson, continues to dominate screens worldwide. With its incredible momentum, this music biopic is on the brink of joining the elite $800 million club—and it could soon dethrone Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle as the highest-grossing anime rival and claim the crown among all music biopics.

Domestic Hustle: Crossing the $300M Frontier

North America Holds Steady

On its fifth Friday in North America, Michael added another $5.1 million, marking the biggest fifth-weekend haul ever for a biopic. Despite losing 254 venues (including all IMAX screens), the film’s drop was a modest 27.1% from last week. That resilience pushed its U.S. and Canada total past the $300 million mark—making Michael only the fourth Lionsgate release to achieve this domestic milestone.

Global Sprint: Eyes on $800M

International Appeal

Abroad, Michael has raked in a spectacular $439.2 million. When you combine that with the domestic tally, the worldwide haul stands at $738.4 million. Trade trackers predict the movie will shatter the $800 million barrier this weekend, thanks to strong holds in Europe and Latin America and a steady performance in Asia.

Record-Breaking Ambitions

Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle currently reigns as the top-grossing anime film with $802.6 million globally. Michael is closing the gap fast, and if it can maintain its box office power—especially against upcoming competition like the new Star Wars instalment—it will not only overtake Infinity Castle but also challenge Bohemian Rhapsody’s all-time music biopic record of around $900 million.

What’s Next for Michael?

Released on April 24, Michael’s journey is far from over. With every weekend hold, Jaafar Jackson cements his portrayal of a legend and pushes the biopic genre to new heights. Will he cross $900 million by the end of the run? Only time (and ticket sales) will tell!
